Smile Design Offers a Preview of Dental Work
By Dr. David Wyse on February 15, 2018
Cosmetic dentistry treatments address aesthetic flaws to improve the overall appearance of the smile. Oftentimes, a patient can benefit from multiple types of dental treatments. These services can improve tooth color, correct spacing issues, and enhance the length or shape of the teeth. While cosmetic dentistry treatments can have dramatic results, patients tend to have a difficult time imagining exactly what these types of services can do for their smile. Dental technology utilizes the latest advancements to provide patients with a more accurate representation of the benefits of cosmetic and restorative dentistry services. Thanks to smile design imaging technology, our Bloomington, IL, patients can see just how beautiful their smile will look after undergoing recommended dental treatment.
What is Smile Design?
Smile design is imaging technology that takes the guesswork out of visualizing the results of suggested dentistry treatments. To start, we take a series of pictures of the patient’s current smile. Depending on what type of work has been recommended, we may take a close-up photo of the smile, an image containing the face and smile, or both. These photos can be taken from all different angles to ensure the appropriate teeth are contained in the pictures. Essentially, smile design allows our dentists to virtually perform the procedure before actually treating the patient.
To provide patients with an accurate representation of the capabilities of our restorative and cosmetic dentistry services, we will digitally alter the images of the patient’s smile. We will make digital adjustments based on the patient’s unique needs, and tailor the images to represent the treatment plan we have created for each patient. This imaging technology allows us to remove teeth, add teeth, brighten tooth color, correct spacing issues, and lengthen a tooth or improve its shape. After all relevant alterations have been made, we will provide the patient with their completed photo. This image can be compared to that of their current smile so that they have a true representation of their “before” and “after” smiles.
Benefits of Smile Design
Most people want to improve the appearance of their smile, but it can be difficult to visualize how effective dental work can be. Without an accurate idea of how cosmetic dentistry treatments can benefit them, many patients are hesitant to undergo recommended dental treatments. Smile design technology lets patients go beyond a vague image of an attractive smile to see how their own smile will look after dental care is complete.
Once patients are able to see for themselves the potential of their smile, they tend to feel excited about recommended dental care instead of feeling anxious or reluctant. Many of our patients have had their worries eased by smile design images. Even when patients will be undergoing a complex series of dental treatments, the process is much easier when they know exactly what kind of results they have to look forward to.
